What Is a Character LCD Module?
A character LCD module is an alphanumeric display that presents text and symbols in a predefined character grid — such as 16 characters by 2 lines (16x2) or 20 characters by 4 lines (20x4). Each character is formed from a dot-matrix block (typically 5x8 dots), and most modules use the widely adopted HD44780 (or compatible) controller, making them easy to program and integrate. Character LCD modules are available with or without backlights, in various colors, and in COB or COG construction.
